Burnout is at an all-time high in nursing, following COVID-19, increases in workplace violence, and the restructuring of what work looks like in a technology-forward post-pandemic world. Nurses are prioritizing their mental health now more than ever and requesting more autonomy over their schedules. This panel will discuss how CNOs can foster a psychologically safe work environment for their units and redesign workflows to relieve stress and burnout.

Larry Adams, RN, MSN, MBA, is a highly accomplished healthcare professional with a wealth of experience and expertise in nursing and healthcare leadership. With a distinguished career spanning several decades, Larry has made significant contributions to the field.

Having served as a travel nurse, Larry brings a unique perspective and firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by healthcare professionals on the front lines. His experience in various healthcare settings has shaped his understanding of the industry and deepened his commitment to improving healthcare delivery.

Previously, Larry held the position of Division Vice President of Crisis Staffing and Labor Disruption at AMN Healthcare, where he played a crucial role in helping healthcare organizations navigate staffing challenges during critical situations. His strategic insights and expertise were instrumental in providing innovative solutions to healthcare providers nationwide. Currently, Larry serves as the EVP of Growth, Nurse Executive at ShiftMed, where he continues to make a significant impact on the industry.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Larry has been actively involved in giving back to the healthcare community. He has served as a volunteer leader with the South Carolina Hospital Association, where he contributed his time and expertise to support the development of healthcare professionals, policies and initiatives.

With his vast experience, diverse skill set, and dedication to advancing healthcare, Larry continues to be a respected leader in the industry. His ability to navigate complex challenges, drive growth, and foster innovation positions him as a valuable asset in shaping the future of healthcare delivery.

Jennifer Croland

VP and Chief Nursing Officer, OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center

Jennifer has been the chief nursing officer at OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center, a 642-bed academic medical center, since 2014 and is responsible for planning, directing and evaluating the operations of the patient services division, ensuring the provision of proficient nursing care services.


Jennifer began her career in nursing as a registered nurse at OSF Saint Francis and has served as a patient care manager, director and executive director in various departments at OSF. As executive director of Tele Health Services, she implemented an eICU model of care and developed the telehealth program's strategy making recommendations for future TeleHealth services to be offered at OSF HealthCare.


Jennifer has a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Nursing Systems Administration, and completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice in Executive Leadership in 2016. She is a recipient of Central Illinois 25 Women in Leadership, the Peoria area 40 Leaders Under Forty Award, a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, American College of Healthcare Executives, American Organization of Nurse Leaders (AONL), and is a board-certified nurse executive, ANCC.


Dr. Marie Giordano-Mulligan, PhD, RN,

CNOR, NEA-BC, FAAN

Vice President for Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer, Huntington Hospital Northwell Health

Dr. Marie Giordano-Mulligan, PhD, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC, FAAN has served in nursing executive, educational and consulting leadership roles for over 3 decades. She currently assumes the role of Vice President for Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer at Huntington Hospital Northwell Health.

Dr. Mulligan is known for her research in the development of the Authentic Nurse Leadership Framework that supports a healthy work environment and the development and validation of the Authentic Nurse Leadership Questionnaire for staff nurses and leaders. Her research is disseminated through education, consultations, publications, and presentations which has a substantial global impact, and was inducted as a fellow into the American Academy of Nursing in 2023.

Dr. Mulligan achieved her initial Associate nursing degree from Kingsborough Community College. Obtained advance degrees of Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Adelphi University, a Master of Science in Nursing from Adelphi University, and PhD in Nursing Leadership Healthcare outcomes from Adelphi University.
